Best way to learn to dj? decks and mixer or computer software?

What kind of DJ Mixer do i need?

I need to know what kind of DJ mixer i need to buy. I want to play music directly from my laptop, but i want to have that option to play CD’s also.
I am going to be using Virtual DJ and/or Atomix MP3.

DJ equipment?

Myself and two friends are interested in becoming dj's for parties and other events. We have made mixes using virtual dj but we need advice on what equipment to get such as light effects, smooke machines, turntables, speakers, any other suggestions.
