I am making a documentary on our school, and the whole sociology of school. What sound equipment would be best

This will be done over 117 days of school with around 3 hours of filming each day. I have been prepareing for a while, and know how to work a camera, and adjust for lighting and other things. Though I have hit a brick wall with sound equipment.

Use a "shotgun" microphone with a boom pole. A separate mixer with headphones operated by a sound operator will give the best results. http://www.professionalsound.com/ manufactures mixers and boom poles. Microphones from Sennheiser, Azden and Audio Technica are some good choices. Sony MDR7506 headphones are the industry standard for location recording. For wireless microphones, Lectrosonics is one of the best. Azden is the economical choice for wireless systems. Azden also manufactures mixers for a reasonable price. "Producing Great Sound for Film & Video " is a good reference book to help you through the learning process. It is available on amazon and at book stores. Get the mic. close as possible and watch the levels. Good luck!
