Some DJ sites say the margin on equipment is in the region of just 10% and selling new gear is difficult. Some shop owners I know are very wealthy while others aren't. I can't find accurate information on the net. Anyone know how many Pioneer CDJ1000s, Numark CDXs, Technics 1210s are sold worldwide? What kind of margin is on them?

it depends on how much you wanna rip off your customer. i'm sure the shop owners act like there's not a big profit margin, but if there weren't they'd quit selling dj equipment and start selling tupperwares.
